I am so saddened to learn that Andy’s fight is over. I was so hoping to find good news regarding his health, I so wanted him to be cured. My brother, my hero and one of my top favorite people in the entire world is fighting this dreadful disease. Mark’s surgery was successful according to Sylvester in Miami, but the after treatment hasn’t been, as another malignancy has developed & shown up on his PET taken 2 months ago in preparation for surgery to correct the hernia that developed after cancer surgery in June 10′. The 1st episode was a spot that appeared on the calf on his left leg 10 years ago. June 10′ Melanoma resurfaced UNDER the skin in the groin/ upper thigh area, the surgeon felt like he had “gotten it all, had taken ALL tissue that even looked suspicious”. After undergoing treatment in a trial study for a few months this spot/malignancy has shown up on the pancreas which is extremely scary. Now he is looking for the next hopeful curing treatment to undergo ASAP since he has healed over 5 weeks from hernia surgery. HELP I beg for ANY successful information that ANYONE has to offer us as to what to try next to cure a fine man who is also a GREAT musician, please remember Mark in your prayers, we need & greatly appreciate all we can get, THANKS SOOOO MUCH in Advance. Love to all.

So I just posted a comment on one of the other pages… I just now read this. I’m so sorry to hear this. It’s very sad and scary, especially since he and I were the same age.

I found your page while searching for images to use on a poster encouraging 20 somethings to get screened for skin cancer. I am 25 and last year this time I found a very small, perfectly circle mole on the underside of my arm. It had a black film over it that I just scratched off. I was only slightly worried (my dad had been diagnosed with Stage 1 melanoma 2 years prior) and figured I’d keep an eye on it. About 3 months later I actually thought to notice it again and this time it had the black film again. I scratched it off but this time the mole had 2 black dots in the middle of it. Three months after that incident it started to itch while I was work. Luckily I work in a doctor’s office and when it started to itch, one of the doctors was standing there so I showed it to him and asked his opinion. He wasn’t too worried because of my age but said, we’ll take it off just in case. A month later it was removed, a day later the results came back as melanoma in situ, that following Monday I had a consult with a plastic surgeon and that Friday I had surgery to remove the outlying areas.

I may have only been looking up this information for a school project but I believe in every bit of the information on this page. People are too ignorant when it comes to cancer, especially melanoma. I was hoping to raise awareness in my area and get to the word out to the younger crowd as well as the older crowd. The earlier it’s caught, the better!
